The Pen to Right History
McCann New York
The Last Prisoner Project (LPP) is a national, nonpartisan nonprofit organization dedicated to cannabis criminal justice reform with the goal of releasing every last cannabis prisoner. They aim to end America’s policy of cannabis criminalization, as well as to repair the harms of this discriminatory and counterproductive crusade.
We created a pen. A pen that has been in the hands of those impacted by cannabis incarceration—fathers, sons, mothers, daughters, and friends.
They used it to write letters sharing their stories and advocating for their loved ones.
Now, we’re asking President Biden and U.S. Governors to use the very same pen to sign legislation that returns these prisoners back home.
The same pen that is detailing the trauma of cannabis incarceration can be used to end it.
The Pardon
On June 17, 2024, Governor Wes Moore of Maryland signed a historic pardon using "The Pen to Right History." Before signing the pardon, Shiloh Jordan, a Maryland constituent who was receiving a pardon that day, used the pen to write a letter of advocacy. Shiloh then handed the pen directly to Governor Moore, who proceeded to pardon 175,000 Marylanders.
